> Devias is an open-source platform that works as an operating system for a business: a core (records, views, workflows, agents, permissions) with installable modules.
> Pages are typed by folder. concepts/ explains what things are, guides/ gives procedures, reference/ is exhaustive (SDK, CLI, HTTP API), operate/ covers hosting. Use /start/glossary for exact terms.
> Every id in a module (module, object, field, view, action, workflow, step, connection, variable, event, policy) is a uuid. Generate them with `devias id <count>`. Never invent dotted or readable ids.
> Run `devias plan` and read its output before `devias apply`. Apply only what the plan says.
> The OpenAPI document, including the routes of the modules in the reference setup, is at /reference/api/openapi.json.
> Devias is young and changes quickly. If a page and the source repository (github.com/devias-io/devias) disagree, the repository is right.

# Views, layouts and navigation

> How records are listed and shown. A view is a saved table, kanban or calendar of one object, a layout arranges one record's page from blocks in a tabs, column or split shape, and navigation items and commands let people reach them.

A **view** lists the records of one object, a **layout** arranges the page of one record, **navigation items** build the sidebar, and **commands** fill the command palette. All four are data, so modules and workspaces define them the same way.

## Views

A view is a saved way of looking at one object: which records, in what order, with which fields. An object can have many views.

| View kind | Shows records as |
| - | - |
| Table | Rows and columns |
| Kanban | Cards in columns, grouped by a `select` field such as a deal's stage |
| Calendar | Items on a date field |

A view stores its filter, sort and fields. Create and edit views in **Settings → Views**, or ship them in a module. For the controls inside a view, see [Records and views](https://docs.devias.io/guides/studio/records.md).

## Layouts

A layout is how one record's page is arranged. It has a **shell** and **blocks**.

| Shell | Arrangement | Holds |
| - | - | - |
| `tabs` | A header and one or more tabs | A header block, and blocks per tab |
| `column` | One centered column, for things people write in | `blocks`, top to bottom |
| `split` | A main column with an aside on the right, for a record read like an issue | `main` and `aside` blocks |

Blocks are the pieces on the page: the record's fields, related records, comments, activity and tasks. Each object has a layout, and a module ships a default for its objects. See [Blocks](https://docs.devias.io/guides/customize-studio/blocks.md) for the blocks a studio can draw.

## Navigation

The sidebar is built from navigation items. Each item points at one target.

| Target `kind` | Opens |
| - | - |
| `object` | An object, optionally on a chosen view |
| `page` | A studio page a module or the studio provides |
| `url` | An address, optionally external |
| `group` | Groups other items under a heading |

Modules add their own items, for example Prospects and Sales from the CRM. A workspace can rename, hide and rearrange items in **Settings → Navigation**.

## Command palette

`⌘K` opens the command palette from anywhere. It searches records and runs commands such as **New person**. A command's action is one of `navigate`, `create_record` or `open_block`. Modules add their own commands. See [Pages and commands](https://docs.devias.io/guides/customize-studio/pages-commands.md).
